How to Grow Microgreens

(certain seeds might have different need so it is important to read the instructions on the bag of your seeds)

  1. Soak the seeds in water for 6-12 hours
  2. Drain & rinse many times
  3. Place the tray with holes in one of the full trays. Keep the other full tray for later
  4. Spread evenly about 2 cm of coco coir in the tray.
  5. Generously sprinkle with water so the coco coir becomes dark and wet.
  6. Tap the coco coir softly but evenly to create a uniform bedding for the seeds
  7. Spread the seeds on the coco coir.  They can be tight together but not overlapping too much.
  8. Sprinkle with water once more
  9. Place the second full tray on top
  10. Place a heavy weight on top of the trays (sunflower seeds are strong when sprouting so don’t be shy a 30-35 lbs weight is good)
  11. Place in the dark for 4 days so that they create roots
  12. Take out of darkness, take off the weight and the top full tray.
  13. Place in direct sunlight
  14. Water underneath everyday from this point to maturity (make sure there is always water in the bottom tray)
  15. Cut with long sharp knife at the base of the plant before the roots, when ready to consume
  16. Consume when about 3 inches in height and bright green.
  17. Better when consumed when the plant has only the first 2 leaves
  18. Can also be harvested and placed in refrigerator
  19. When the tray is all cut off, pull the coco coir and the roots out and throw in compost or feed to your chickens
  20. Wash the trays & they are ready for another time
